Wikitex Kalidos – A Bookbinding Cloth Worth Rediscovering

Wikitex Kalidos is not a new product in our range. We have had this bookbinding cloth for quite some time, but sometimes a material needs the right project to reveal its full potential.

That is exactly what happened with Kalidos.

At first glance, it is a rather subtle and understated material. But its very fine weave, smooth surface and impregnated finish make it much more versatile than we initially expected.

A fine weave makes a real difference

One of the most important features of Wikitex Kalidos bookbinding cloth is its very fine and even weave.

Compared with many traditional bookbinding fabrics, its surface is noticeably smoother. This gives finished covers an elegant and refined appearance, while still preserving the natural textile character of the material.

The impregnated surface also makes Kalidos more practical in everyday use and gives it a pleasant, smooth feel.

Excellent results with UV printing

What surprised us most was how well Wikitex Kalidos performs with UV printing.

The fine structure and smooth surface allow printed graphics to remain clear and precise. In our own tests and finished notebook projects, we achieved:

  • vivid and expressive colours,
  • sharp details,
  • clean edges of printed graphics,
  • an attractive combination of print and visible textile structure.

This makes Kalidos particularly interesting for modern covers where colourful graphics are an important part of the design.

And what about hot foil stamping?

Kalidos also performs very well when it comes to hot foil stamping and embossing.

Its fine, even weave creates a stable surface that allows clean and elegant results. This means the same material can be successfully used for both modern printed designs and more traditional covers decorated with foil stamping.

One material, many possibilities

Wikitex Kalidos combines several features that are particularly useful in bookbinding:

  • a fine and elegant textile structure,
  • a smooth impregnated surface,
  • excellent performance with UV printing,
  • very good results with hot foil stamping,
  • a modern yet natural appearance.

It can be an excellent choice for notebooks, books, calendars, albums, menu covers, presentation boxes, packaging and many other premium bookbinding applications.

Sometimes you simply need to look at a material differently

Kalidos has taught us something important.

Sometimes you do not need a new material. You just need a new idea for a material you already know.

After seeing how well Wikitex Kalidos performs in both UV printing and hot foil stamping, we definitely started looking at this bookbinding cloth from a completely different perspective.
